Consider Items Removed from the Consent Agenda 3.f Approve Renewal of 2007 Janitorial Services Contract for City Facilities (Removed from Consent Agenda for Discussion). At the request of Mayor Klausing, Interim City Manager Chris Miller briefly reviewed staffs recommendation for extension of the contract for janitorial services of City facilities to Marsden Janitorial Service through February 9, 2009, as detailed in the Request for Council Action dated December 4, 2006. Mr. Miller advised that staff and the public were happy with Marsden staff, that the company was responsive to City needs, providing additional cleaning as requested; and that Price comparisons with similar firms remained comparable to the market place. Mr. Miller advised that it was staffs opinion that it would not be to the City's benefit cost-wise to go out for bid at this time, given the competitiveness of the current proposal. Councilmember Ihlan clarified that this contract was entered into several years ago to replace services provided by employee positions being terminated; and noted that she had voted for the contracted services reluctantly, based on staff versus contractors, after being advised that there would be a cost benefit to the City. Councilmember Ihlan requested such a cost benefit analysis being provided in writing for Councilmember consideration prior to considering extension of the contract.
