APPROPRIATE PUNISHMENT FOR VANDALISI•� <br />Survey respondents were asked about the appropriateness <br />of four different punishments - co�rt fines, repayment to <br />victim, assignmeni to city wark progran and imprisonment - <br />for persons convicted of vandalism. A majoriiy of Roseville <br />residents indicated that �hree of the four punisi�ments <br />are appropriate for persons convicted of vandalisM; repayment <br />to victim (96%}, assignment to city work program (78�), and <br />cou�t fines (61�). Thirty-six percent were of the opinion <br />that imprisonment is an appropriate punishment (Question 6)_ <br />When asked to select the one punishment which wauld be <br />most appropriate for vandalism, a very substantial �ajority <br />{72�} selected repayment to victim. The only other punish- <br />ment ��ith any frequency �f selection was assignment to city <br />work program (18�). Imprisonment and court fines were <br />chosen as mast appropriate by four percent and two percent, <br />respectively. Five percent were unable to select the most <br />appropriate punishment (Question 7).
