Roseville Human Righis Cammissiou <br />Meeting Minutes — May OS, 2007 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />1 Additianal discussion included the target audience of the video; various uses; whether an adult <br />2 facilitator was needed; training of facilitators; organizations and audiences that couid ut.ilize the <br />3 video as a tool; and current uses (i.e., Bible Study groups}. <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />Chair Delmorc volunteered to follow-up with the Commission's previous questions of City <br />Manager Malinen regarding the diversity training currently available to City etnployees. <br />Commissioner Crump suggested that by referencing some of the segrnents the newly-rcleased <br />DVD would be a good discussion for use in the upcoming essay contest. <br />11 Commissioner McGehee suggested this DVD may be more suitabl� for an older {i.e., High <br />12 School) group as a separate item and suggested that training be provided for Roseville facilitators <br />13 for group or home settings. <br />14 <br />15 Chair Delmore opined that there was racial profiling in Roseville and expressed her passion <br />16 about this topic further opining her support of the essay contest using this, then branching out <br />17 with a forum and connection with the schools; while continuing to keep pushing the City to <br />18 address racis�i in tl�e coiiununity. <br />19 <br />20 Additional discussion foilowing the viewing of several scenarios from the DVD, included cost of <br />21 the kits (free); traini;ng available and how to iacilitate training. <br />22 <br />23 Ms. Shipchandler advised that in order for her to coordinate training and presentation of the <br />2� materials she would like to f�rst see the Connmission develop a plan to create traction and to <br />25 recruit people. Ms. Shipchandler suggested that those in mid-level rnanagement were usually <br />26 more receptive to the training and developing a passion for the topic. Ms. Shipchandler referred <br />27 Commissioners to the Foundaiion's website for a list of groups who've used the materials to-date <br />28 and referenced the website for the Itasca Group -- Mind the Gap -- <br />29 www.UnitedWavTwinCities.or� and their report section and companion report outlining <br />30 strategies to close the gap in order for the Cammission to review other action ideas. <br />3I <br />32 Commissioners supported a"brown bag" lunch training session as an initial training session. <br />33 <br />34 Commissioner Crurnp suggested that whilc the DVD revisions werc being campleted, the <br />35 Cominission work on a marketing plan and pitch to the City employees; then prepare flyers and <br />36 e-mail notices for scheduling. <br />37 <br />38 <br />39 <br />40 <br />41 <br />42 <br />43 <br />44 <br />Ms. Shipchandler thanked the Commissioners for their interest and advised that she would <br />cantact Chair Delmore in several weeks to determine whether she should tailor assistance to <br />meet the needs of the City. <br />Chair Delznore noted that additional discussion on a plan could be held at the June meeting and <br />advised that the Cornrnission would not meet in July. <br />
