The panel will discuss how recent federal laws and initiatives affect <br />owr constitutional liberties, tbe rights of imm�igrants aa�d how we interact in our locai <br />communities. Following the panelists' presentations, the audience will be invitcd to <br />participate in a question and answer period. <br />Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch has extensively studied the USA <br />PATRIOT Act and will provide an overview of its specific proviszons and discuss how <br />the act has changed law enforcement policy. <br />Matt Ehling of the Minnesota Bill of Rights Defense Committee (BORDC) vvill <br />present a civil libertarian perspective on post-9/11 security policies such as the PATRIOT <br />Act, and will discuss BORDC initiatives to help ensure that new security policies comply <br />with the Constitution. <br />Chuck Samuelson of the Minnesota Civil Liberties Union will discuss the <br />freedoms provided by the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution and how they apply to <br />the lives of both citizens and recent iriu�nigrants to the United States. <br />Gail Dorfinan, Hennepin County Commissioner, will discuss why il xz�akes sense <br />for local comznunities to welcome new imnnigranls as our neighbors, seeing them as <br />assets rather than threats. <br />Jorge Saavedra, Chief Legai Counsel, Centro Legal will discuss how local <br />government can ensure civil and immigrant rights while providing a secure environment <br />for all. <br />Vic Rosenthal, executive director of Jewish Cam�munity Actzon will moderate thc <br />event. <br />The prograrn is being co-sponsored by Jewish Community Action and the <br />Minnesota Bill o f Rights Defense Cornmittee.
