Rights. Commissioners thcn discussed who to invite to be speakers. Several names including <br />Attorney General Mike Hatch, Chuck Samuelson, Matt Ehling, 7orgc Saavedra, Susana De <br />Leon, Sez�ator John. Marty, Ra.rmsey County Cornrnissianer Jan Weissner, Human Rights <br />Commissioner Steve Sinith, Hussein Hesham, Rajinder Singh, Evelyn Lennon and others <br />were suggested. <br />Commissioner Karen Vnuk moved and Commissioncr Larry Voeller seconded the motion for <br />the Coliunission prc�ceed with t.�ie fonun on May 10 at the Skating Center, and to continue to <br />loak for speakers for the forurn. <br />Commissioners, �Iext and Kaufinan spend a considerable amount of time discussing who the <br />speakers should be and t11c focus of the fonun. Commissioncrs agreed to invite Hatch, Smith, <br />De Leon and Ehling and either Hesham or Singh and to ask Marty to act as ezx�cee. Because <br />of the short time to plan, planners would consider others as alternatcs if sorrxeone was not <br />available. <br />Update on Black History Month Event <br />Coimnissioner Steve Smith reported on the reenactment of Dr. Martin Luther King's I Have a <br />Dream speech at Parkvie�xr School. It was well received by the siudents and the teachers. <br />However, Commissioners thought some students were too young to fully appreciate the <br />presentation. <br />RAHS request for Summary of Essay Themes <br />At the February zneeting Co�mmissioner Voeller mentianed ihai he spoke to Filiz Yar�ici's <br />class at the Roseville Area High School. They talked about the essay contest and some <br />common themes of disrespect between and among students. Yargici expressed interest in <br />seeing excerpts of the essays. R1�HS is doing work on respectful behavior. Comrriissioner <br />Vnuk volunteered to review and summarize the essays. <br />Other Business <br />Commissioner Vnuk brought everyone's attention to the email from RAS Diversity <br />Coordinaior Johanna Eager. Johanna is seeking volunteers to work on the 2005-2006 Equity <br />and Integration Plan. This year, Equity and Integration Advisory Council and the Equity and <br />Integration Task Force will revievv and revise the plan logefiher. Meeting dates are March 30, <br />Apri1 b, April 11 and Apri125 (if needed). Mee#ings are from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Fairview <br />Community Center. Cornmissioners agreed to ask Commissioner Crump to serve on the <br />cominittee, if he has timc. <br />Adj ournment <br />Meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m. <br />2 <br />
