Steve Zorn moved and Mark Chapin seconded a motion that the Human Rights Commission <br />send a letter to the City Council stating that Commissioners reviewed the tnaterial, met with the <br />Parks and Recreatian Director and discussed the issues and found that the current policy is ok <br />and should remain at it is_ The motion passed unanimously. Carolyn Curti will draft a letter and <br />circulate it by email to the Commissioners. Thelma McKenzie will sign the final document. <br />Lonnie Brokke briefly explained about the June 23 Rose Parade, the kickoff to the annual <br />Rosefest. This year's theme is "Together We Play," Brokke encouraged the Commission to <br />participate in the parade as we have done in past years. <br />City Signage <br />Mark Chapin has been doing work on improving City signage to help create a better identity for <br />the City of Roseville. Mark moved and Phil Crump seconded that the Hurnan Rights <br />Commission subrnit a recotnmendation to the City Council to locate welcoming signs in different <br />locations in the City. <br />The motion reads: "The Roseville Human Rights Corrimission beiieves that a community's <br />sense of place can enhance community relations. For this reason, the Human Rights <br />Commission recommends that the City Counci] consider the creation and placement pf <br />appropriate signage that reflects the history, population and welcoming message of the City of <br />Roseville at key intersections and locations near the geographic boundaries af the City." <br />Commission members discussed specifics of what should be on the signs. Caralyn Curti <br />reported that Council Member Tom Kough recently met with several civic organizations <br />(Kiwanas, VFW, Lions Club} discussing this issue. Commissioners said that the City Council <br />would decide the specific wording an the signage. The motion passed unanimously. Carolyn <br />Curti will forward the message to the full City Council. <br />Committee Reports <br />HRC Brochure — Steve Zorn and Martha Hardesty had drafted an initia� draft of thc brochure. <br />Steve and Martha will look at it again and will make draft language available for discussion at <br />the April meeting. <br />Commissioners discussed the purpose of the brochure. It seems that we have two audiences: <br />those who have a Human Rights Complaint and those who the Commission wants to provide <br />information and education. The brochure should say what education/opportunities we can <br />provide for businesses. Commissioners discussed ways to �ncrease the Commission's visibility. <br />Suggestians include getting a story in the Roseville Wrap and getting an email address that we <br />can publicize. Carolyn will work with City staff to accomplish both of these. Commissioners <br />asked about the Roseville Community Fund and whether the Commission would be eligible for <br />funding ta distribute brochures and other information. Carolyn will provide information at the <br />next meeting. A <br />
