�� m�t�ee '�.e � � r -�- From Thelma McKenzie and Larry Voeller Just a brief follow-up from our last Human Rights meeting. You and I were going to put our heads together and come up with a more focused goal under the heading of "Build new and strengthen partnerships with community and businesses." My basic thoughts are to simply get more specific so we'll know when we have accomplished fihe goal and so we make some de�nitive progress. I believe one partnership we have already initiated this year is with the Raseville schools. With Marion and Johanna Eager joining us at our October meeting, I believe we will develop some more specific actions that will support their efforts. I would iike to see us establish one more contact like that this year...either with a business ar other com�munity group. So my initial thoughts for a more focused goal would be something like this... BUILD NEW AND STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIPS WITH COMMUNITY AND BUSINESSES Make formal contact with the RosevilIe schools and one other Roseville business or cornmunity group in order to {a} understand the issues they face in creating environments that support diversity and effective �uman relations and (b) determine speci�ic actions that the Roseville Human Right Commission can do ta support those efforts. Action to be taken: SetWUp a"Partnership Workshop" at one of our meetings or do it in the day with whichever HRC Mernbers can altend. The contents of the workshop would be for our Cornmission to listen to them. • their needs and ideas of worlcing in community; • find common grounds to work together; and • present how we want to partner with them and what we are asking of them, how we want them involved. Our work will be refining and developing this workshop to rneet the goals we are setting as we will nced partners to help with programs and finances in some instances i.e. underwrite the essay contest awards both for students and teachers......... My thoughts are to first contact via letter [we can ci�a$ send to members for input and refine then sendj • new HRA Agency in Roseville; • Parks and Recreation; • Police Commissian; • whatever Chamber of Cornznerce Roseville is now a part of; � League of Women Voters; • Council of Churches specifically Roseville area churches; • we akeady are in the schools, however, the same letter to the school superintendeni of our District and to each contact we have at any of the schools; • the compat�y who operates Rosedale Shopping Center; o Key Businesses in Roseville, large and small; also specifically "Advance Circuits" (they were the recipients of our last HRC Award given. As I recall they were very willing to come az�d work with the commission and in eommunity. They had a partnership with Fairview (�`ommunitv Center when w� aave them the aw�r�l
