SUBURBAN SCHOOLS: Diversity coordinators vent at round-table discussion Page 4 of 4
Tracey Pyscher: Wel1, the comments that I hear, and that`s ane of the Frst questions that I asked, the
first time I met with this group: What is your perspective on people who live in this community? The
community members who are involved in my group have shared with me that people are ready for tnis.
That ovenvhelmingly, at least at Mahtomedi, people are ready.
Tania Chance: White Bear Lake had community members that already had a program or a Eittle club, if
you wifl, that they started called "Praject Respect." So, they were already in the community doing this.
So, the community has already spoken in that they are respectfu! of diversity initiatives and things 19ke
that. There's no hate mail or bad phone calls and my number is public and accessible. If you want to look
at it from a negative angle, I haven't experienced any of that.
.'.tHYlpinncri,ir=-,:mdusrc•:ri:cc.ur:•c.: \IfILlit.,Re,ncl.
http it Miwitr.ium
http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/livingleducationJ43 3 0425.htm?templa#e=co... 10/21/2002
