www.foc►sseews.corm <br />r�a tu <br />BY PAUL RIGNF,LL <br />Srnv Focr�s <br />s <br />The art of quilting is one that has been shared by par- <br />ent and child for many generations. <br />Last summer, it was shared by many children and <br />several of theirparents in a program coordinated by the <br />Falcon Heights Recreation Departm.ent. <br />A.ided by the experience and encouragement of those <br />parents, li area students — most of them in fourth <br />grade — took three two-hoiar sessions to make a rag <br />quilt desi�ned to resemble the United States flag. <br />Using a photo transfer process, the quilters filled <br />each of the 54 stars with an image depicting their li�es <br />as young people --� including photos taken at school, at <br />famiiy events and ai at.�letic contests. <br />Aamsey County $un•Focuslfhursday, Qctober 1 <br />� , � � ��, <br />1 _ I , ;; <br />Summer q�iIting course instructor Cyndi Meier, <br />reading of an opportunity to enter a Roseville quilting <br />contest, asked her class �if they were interested in com• <br />pe#ing. <br />They worked hazd, and earned second place in the <br />contest co-sponsored by Roseville business Colorful <br />Quilts & Textiles and the Rosevilie Human Rights Cora- <br />mission. <br />First place and $240 went to Roseville resident and <br />quilter Nita Whyte, said 5usan Stein, owner of Colorful <br />Quilts & Textiles. <br />The Falcon Heigh#s area youth split their second- <br />place prize of $150. <br />Team tnembers included Larissa Graham, Kristin <br />Kuhens, Rose Gangl, Marcelli.ne Gangl, Andrea Meyer, <br />Brianna Bickler, Miki Abeler, Erica Abeler, Madeline <br />?002 <br />� � ;°i - <br />a:R�:., <br />Thun, Catie Kuettel and Andrew Meier.
