Roseville Sister City Association <br />Minutes <br />Octoberl, 2002 <br />Present: Mary Meyer, Tom and Virginia Turba <br />Minutes: <br />1. Minutes of September 3, 2Qp2 were approved as printed_ <br />2. Action items from previous meeting: Tom wiii puE together a letter requesting funding on <br />an annual basis from thc city council_ <br />3. Current activities: Tozn is working on getting photos scanned for the web page that will be <br />attached to the city's website_ <br />4. Treasurers Report: It was noted that the bank we are using has been charging multiple <br />fees on the account. Since we are a nonprofit association, and now have a nonprofit <br />account, the neat statements will be monitored to see if the fees are still being charged. <br />Shinmachi: Mary reported that she has all the Shinmachi information on computer disk. <br />I.illiane Dargus will be co-chair of the Shinmachi program with Mary for 2003. <br />Costa Rica: Information on the communit}� college programs has been sent to Ivonne <br />Gonza[es. Information on the English l,angua�e school from Hamline, U of Mn, and St. <br />Thomas will also be sent. The cost of the language school is $1000/mo, with room and <br />board an additionai $700/mo. <br />7. New Business_ There probably will be visitors comi�g from Cbina in the spring of 20U3. <br />Tom will expiore having them mect with a Rotary group, Chamber of Commerce, and <br />Lions Club. <br />New Business: Mary contacted Lynn Redlinger who has a cable TV intcrvicw show a.nd <br />is interested irn talking with someone from the Roseville Sister City Association. Points to <br />stress in the interview will be discussed at the next meeting_ Mary consented to do the six <br />minute intet-vieN� which will talce place November 12, 2002. <br />9. Information �tenns: Tom shared information from the Minnesota Sister Cities State <br />Conference. The city of St. Paul has 10 Sister Cities. The St. PauVlVagasaki group hosted <br />the confcrcnce. The ciiy of Duluth has a budget of $35,000 for their sister city program_ <br />Thcy have an AundUncle program for an orphanage in Russia. Ayusa is a group that <br />helps sister city international with student exchanges, hclps to get all the necessary <br />paperwork completed. Wheelchairs for peace is another program that was cliscussed at the <br />canference_ They also toured the Japanese gardens at Como park. <br />10.
