on the ballot at the next election occurring in the city. If no election is to occur within 120 days af�er the <br />filing of the petition, the council shall call a special election on the ordinance to be held within such <br />period. If a majority of those vofing on ihe ordinance vote in its favor, it shall become effective 30 days <br />after adoption unless the ordinance specifies a later effective date. <br />Sec. 507. Referendum. Any ordinance subject to #he initiative may be subjected to referendum <br />by a petition which shall state, at the head of each page or on an attached paper, a description of the <br />ardinance. Any ordinance upon which a petition is filed, other than an emergency ordinance, shall be <br />suspended in its operation as soon as the petition is found sufficient. If the ordinance is not thereafter <br />entirely repealed, it shall be placed on the ballot at the next election or at a special election called for that <br />purpose, as the council determines. If a majority of the voters voting thereon favors the ordinance, it <br />shall go into effect immediately or on the date specified in the ordinance; if a majority of the electors <br />voting thereon votes against the ordinance, it shall be considered repealed upon certifica�ion of the <br />election results. If a pe#ition is filed against an emergency ordinance, the ordinance shall remain in effect <br />but shall be repealed if a majority of the voters voting on the ordinance vote against it. <br />Sec. 5.08. Advisor_y referendums.
