TCMRF Single-Sort Constituent Test
Igure 3- Loading Single-sort System
Single-sort System Described: Bollegraaf/Lubo supplied the single-sort process system
at the TCMRF. It includes dual news screens and dual angle {finishing} screen.s for the
mechaaical sorting functions. There are dual manual sorting lines preceding the news
screens for initial sorting. The sorting regimen is described as follows:
,
• Pre-Screeas Sorting
• By hand: Sort corrugated paper (OCC).
• By hand: Sort mixed fiber (includes some OCC, boxboard, kraft bags).
• By hazzd: Sort unrecoverablel zxaaterials and miscellazzeous scrap steel items.2
• By hand: Another sort for the mixed fiber fraction.
• Mechanical Screes
News Screens: These have the purpose of sorting as much newspaper from the
rest of the other paper and containers as possible. Paper scparated by the news
screens proceeds to the "post-screens" sorting lines for qualiiy check sorting.
Axzgle (Finishing) Screens: These have the purpose of separating containers from
paper. Paper separated by these screens proceeds to a"post-screen" sorting line
for quality check sorting.
' Materials not targeted £or recycling at the TCMRF_ Represented largely by p]astic bags, bulky items and
materials incorrectly placed in the recycling cart rather than the trash containez by the resident.
Categorized as "residue" in plant operations but better tcrmed as "unrecoverable_"
Z AZthough not a tazgeted material, scrap steel items are received and aze zcmoved from the line. They are
scnt to a scrap yard for rccycling.
4
