48 <br />49 <br />50 <br />51 <br />52 <br />Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />April 18, 2012 - Draft Minutes <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Singleton seconded motion for the format and <br />procedures outlined in the Chair's report. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Program Planning Committee <br />53 Commissioner Kristin Doneen reviewed the Program Planning Committee report, noting that the <br />54 public hearing is to hear the view of Roseville residents concerning the proposed Marriage <br />55 Amendment. She said the community would be notified in a variety of ways. <br />56 <br />57 The Committee discussed the League of Women Voters program, which raised questions of when <br />58 and how the HRC promotes activities by outside groups. The Committee will develop <br />59 recommendations and parameters for notifying and/or promoting events, depending up on whether <br />60 the HRC is sponsoring an event. <br />61 <br />62 The Committee met with the Marriage Amendment Advisory Committee (MAAC) to get feedback <br />63 on whether the HRC should take a position on the proposed Marriage Amendment. MAAC <br />64 overwhelming supported the HRC taking a position in opposition to the amendment. MAAC also <br />65 gave suggestions far future community meetings that the HRC could organize or sponsor. <br />66 <br />67 <br />68 <br />69 <br />70 <br />71 <br />72 <br />Commissioner poneen said several members of the Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) at the Roseville <br />Hi�h School attended the meeting and discussed ways to work with the HRC. <br />Commissioner Thelma McKenzie provided a list of activities that youth commissioners had <br />proposed in the past and asked the youth commissioners to revisit those suggestions. <br />73 Commissioner poneen moved and Commissioner Brisbois seconded a motion to request the HRC <br />74 Youth Commissioners work with the Gay-Straight Alliance at RAHS in order to support <br />75 programming relevant to the GSA interests and the purposes of the HRC for the community. <br />76 <br />77 Commissioner McKenzie asked why to single out one group, and not wark with all groups. In <br />78 response the Youth Commissioners rp esent expressed supported for the motion. Commissioner <br />79 Doneen clarified that this motion was proposed in response to discussion with the GSA at the <br />80 Marria�e Amendment Advisory meeting, and she claimed that this motion would not exclude other <br />81 opportunities far the Youth Commissioners to wark other groups as well. <br />82 <br />83 Motion prevailed 5/0/1, with Commissioner McKenzie abstaining. <br />84 <br />85 Commissioner poneen told the HRC about tbe movie `Bullied" � which �rofiled Jamie <br />86 Nabozny and � his story of being bullied as a school student. The presentation is April 28 at St. <br />87 Michael's Church. She asked if this is something the HRC should advertise. <br />88 <br />89 Commissioner Singleton asked the youth commissioners if bullying is a problem in the schools. <br />90 Youth commissioners related several examples of bullying happening in the schools and �gs <br />91 efforts that the school is doing to combat bullying. <br />92 <br />
