~~

Carolyn Robel1son
Pioneer Press Marketing Manager
345 Cedar Street
St. Paul, Minnesota 55101

February 6, 2007

Dear Carolyn,

The City of Roseville and Roseville Parks and Recreation appreciates the Pioneer Press expanding the
boundaries of this year's treasure hunt to outside the St. Paul city limits and into Ramsey County, and
especially Roseville. The event brought thousands of people to Central Park and exposed them to an
incredible park system the citizens of Roseville are very proud of. This was a great recreational
experience for people of all ages.

We do have some concems regarding the impact on Central Park resulting from the heavy, non-
traditional, off trail, winter foot traffic generated by the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt. I would like to
clarity and confirm our phone conversation from Monday, January 29'" regarding Treasure Hunt activity
in Roseville's Central Park. We discussed reports of increased park activity over the previous weekend,
I then inquired into whether the medallion was hidden in Roseville, you, understandably, were non-
committal. We then talked about the City of Roseville's concern over who would be responsible for post
t,'easure hunt clean-ups and any possible repairs. You assured me that the Pioneer Press would be
financially responsible to the City of Roseville for park repairs needed to retum the park to its pre-hunt
condition and to making Central Park whole again following the Treasure Hunt. You also indicated this
commitment would extend into the spring when some of the event's outcomes may be more obvious.

Our park staff monitored the activity in Central Park and inspected all areas ofthe park for unseasonal
damages. We would like to make arrangements to discuss with you to the events of this year's hunt,
future considerations and how we will work together to restore Central Park, where needed following the
Treasure Hunt.

Thanks again for bringing the annual Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt to Roseville. Thank you for your
prompt response to my earlier inquiries and I look forward to meeting with you in the future.

Cordially,

Jill Anfang
Roseville Parks and Recreation Assistant Director

cc: Lonnie Brokke, Roseville Parks and Recreation Director

2660 Civic Center Drive -:+ Roseville, Minnesota 55113
651-792-ROSE .:+ TDD 651~792-7399 .~. y,rww,cLroseville.mn.us
