Roseville Human Rights Commission
May 10, 2012 - Minutes
Catherine Arthur told the Commission that as a married woman in Roseville she really did not know
how many legal rights that status gave her, but believed it was discriminatory to deny those rights to
others because they were gay. She asked the Commission to oppose the amendment.
Roseville resident John Kysylyczyn said that as a student of local government he objected to the
Commission taking an official stand. He said that resolutions and ordinances were signed by the
Mayor with the approval of the Council, and he would fully support the Commission as an advisory
body, making a recommending to the Council.
Lynne Meyer, a Roseville resident for almost twenty years, spoke of her father, a World War II
pilot, who at age 88 supported gay marriage. She told the Commission that what they were doing as
a human rights commission was really important in that it would send a message to the community
that it stood with its GLBT friends and neighbors.
Commissioner Singleton thanked participants. He closed the public comment section of the meeting
and the Commission took a brief recess.
Commission Discussion
Chair Grefenberg called the meeting back to order. He said the Commission will determine their
position at regular meeting on Wednesday, May 16.
Chair Grefenberg said the HRC is considering a position against the marriage amendment that will
be discussed and determined at May 16 meeting. Commissioners Brisbois, Kristin Doneen, Joan
Dao and Marie Siliciano volunteered to draft the recommended position.
Commissioner Singleton thanked staff for their assistance in organizing the meeting and he thanked
the community for participating in the public meeting.
Adjournment
Commissioner Brisbois moved and Commissioner Kaying Thao seconded the motion to adjourn.
Motion passed unanimously.
