Regular City Council Meeting Monday, March 26, 2007 Page 33 amended, excluding appointment for a concurrent term of five years ending September 23, 2012. A discussion ensued, initiated by Councilmember Kough and directed at Councilmember Roe, regarding Mr. Maschka's participation and involve- ment in Councilmember Roe's recent City Council campaign. Councilmember Roe clarified, for the record, that former Councilmember Maschka provided him with invaluable advice before and during his cam- paign; provided funding to his campaign, as evidenced in public financial disclosure statements; and provided references of support in local newspa- pers. However, Councilmember Roe clarified that Mr. Maschka didn't serve on his campaign committee, as there was no such formal organization. Councilmember Roe noted that his rationale for not supporting the original motion was due to him not supporting preliminary appointment for the five year term at this time; however, opined his support for Mr. ivIaschka con- tinuing to serve the HRA, and his worthy expertise to that body. Councilmember Roe again expressed his strong support for further City Council discussion regarding their appointment process, recognizing that HRA appointments were mayoral and subject to City Council approval; and hoped such discussion would be held between now and a five year appoint- ment in September of 2007. Councilmember Ihlan spoke in opposition to the motion; citing that Mr. Maschka didn't submit his application by the City Council-established dead- line; and her previously stated issues regarding appointment procedures. Roll Call Ayes: Pust; Roe and Klausing. Nays: Ihlan and Kough. Motion carried. Mayor Klausing noted that he would welcome an opportunity to have further discussion on the City Council's input in HRA appointments at an upcoming meeting. 12.
