Councilmember Pust opined the need to "grow into" that diverse comlnu- nity richness; and the need for the Council to authentically reflect the visioning discussions about the values in that diversity. Councilmelnber Kough opined that the City of Roseville parks were second to none in the State of Minnesota; and expressed the need to balance park improve- ments with available funding resources; and the Council's dependence on Depart- ment Heads in identifying priorities and needs in the parks. Mr. Keel observed that, in the category of community, something that distin- guished Roseville was the perception that volunteerism wasn't a way of using peo- ple to get things done inexpensively, but a way to engage people who desire to keep service levels and facilities intact or enhanced. Steering Committee member Stephen Burwell noted that this was his first opportu- nity participating in Roseville government, and enthusiastically noted that this had been a very interesting process and a real learning experience, with him taking away more than he brought. Mr. Burwell opined that it had been an honor to work with the Steering Committee and subcommittees, as well as citizens, and encour- aged anyone in the community who would like to volunteer for any community ac- tivity to not be intimidated, but to step up and realize how rewarding the experi- ence could be. Mayor Klausing concurred with Mr. Burwell's comments about volunteers receiv- ing more than they give through their participation. Ms. Edstrom encouraged discussion and consideration in how to initiate and de- velop the good ideas in the community through joint opportunities between our schools and the City, specifically in volunteer programs. Councilmember Pust noted the need to keep that image obvious in mind; that there was a "huge" community out there, not just the people regularly attending meet- ings or already involved, but that the Council needed to make sure they were kept aware that everyone had a place at the table and in the decision-making.
