<br />EXTRACT OF MINUTES OF MEETING <br />OF THE <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEVILLE <br /> <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * <br /> <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the City Council of the City <br />of Roseville, County of Ramsey, Minnesota was duly held on the 9th day of April, 2007, <br />at 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br />The following members were present: Ihlan; Roe; Pust and Klausing. <br /> <br />and the following were absent: Kough. <br /> <br />Member Pust introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION No. 10492 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTIr~G LEGISLATIVE SOLUTION <br />FOR <br />ELECTRONIC WASTE <br /> <br />WHEREAS, technological advances in the areas of computers, televisions and video <br />display devices (VDDs) have created an environmental problem when electronic products <br />need to be disposed; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this waste stream, called E-waste, includes old TV s and computer monitors <br />that have picture tubes or cathode ray tubes containing 2 to 8 pounds of lead per tube; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these items contribute to lead in our water, air, and soil when disposed with <br />other mixed wastes, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Roseville supports efforts to ensure a long-term and sustainable <br />system to ensure the proper management of the disposal of old TV s and computers <br />without reliance on government-only solutions. <br /> <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Roseville supports the Solid Waste <br />Management Coordinating Board's legislative initiative to create a viable solution for <br />electronic waste; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that legislation to solve this problem should include <br />provisions to require manufacturer responsibility, reliable and convenient collection <br />options, responsible recycling ofCRTs, a mechanism to address the backlog ofCRTs, <br />and a funding method that does not require substantial end-of-life fees. <br />
