Computation of Sign Surface Area of Awning or Canopy: To compute the area of an <br />awning or canopy sign: compute by means of the smallest square, rectangle, circle, <br />triangle or combination thereof that will encompass the extreme limits of the copy, <br />representation, logo, emblem or other display, together with any material or color <br />forming an integral part of the background or the display or used to differentiate the sign <br />from the backdrop. <br /> <br />1009.05 <br /> <br />RESIDENCE DISTRICT SIGNS: <br /> <br />A. Sign Regulations: The following signs are permitted in residence districts (also referr to <br />chart on next page): <br /> <br />1. Single-Family, Duplex: Exclusive of house numbers, 1 nameplate sign for each <br />single-family or duplex dwelling unit which shall not exceed 3 square feet in area <br />per surface and no sign shall be so constructed as to have more than 2 display <br />surfaces and must be at least 10 feet from the street right-of-way line. Permitted <br />home occupations may have a business sign not to exceed 6 square feet and such <br />sign shall not be illuminated. (Ord. 723,4-12-1974; amd. 1995 Code) <br /> <br />2. Multiple-Family Units: Exclusive of house numbers, 1 nameplate sign for each <br />dwelling group of 6 to 12 units which shall not exceed 6 square feet in area per <br />surface. One nameplate sign for each dwelling group of 12 to 24 units which shall <br />not exceed 24 square feet in area per surface. One nameplate sign for each <br />dwelling unit group above 24 units which shall not exceed 1 square foot per unit <br />in the dwelling group to a maximum of 100 square feet in area per surface. Such <br />nameplate signs may be attached to the wall of a building or may be freestanding. <br />In no case shall more than 1 sign be allowed for each dwelling group. All such <br />signs shall conform to setback requirements of the Code. No sign shall be <br />constructed so as to have more than 2 display surfaces. Said signs may indicate <br />the names of the buildings, project names, may be a directory for occupants or <br />state any combination of the permitted information. Institutional Uses: Churches, schools and other permitted institutional uses in residence <br />districts may have an illuminated nameplate sign not greater than 50 square feet in gross <br />surface area. <br /> <br />- 17 - <br />
