<br />Introduction: <br />Notable volunteer initiative is more than time invested. It is working together for a common <br />goal. It is a demonstration of passion and a strong commitment. It is establishing ownership. It <br />is providing leadership. It is a willingness to take a chance. It is achieving outcomes. <br />This Award of Excellence application recognizes work done by volunteers to develop a strategy <br />to put an updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan into action, celebrates the volunteer <br />initiative that led to successfully securing $19.0a · z·z 7 ©;Ýz·zé; w;Ýz;x t© <br />and Recreation System. <br />Project Description: <br />Late in 2010, Roseville City Council adopted an <br />updated system-wide Parks and Recreation <br />Master Plan. The Master Plan identified immediate <br />maintenance needs and prioritized long-range <br />system additions and improvements. When the <br />plan was adopted, Council Members applauded <br />the work of the volunteers and recognized the <br />significant level of community engagement used to <br />develop the plan. The fully implemented plan <br />came with a sizeable price tag. The Council <br />encouraged Master Plan Volunteers to strategize ways to implement this plan. Parks and <br />Recreation staff was directed to facilitate the volunteer initiative and guide the process. <br />Volunteers were challenged to consider other community needs and financial responsibilities <br />when making their recommendations for parks and recreation improvements and additions. <br />Ten community members agreed to serve on the Volunteer Organizing Team to provide <br />leadership and direction for a path to implementation for the Parks and Recreation <br />Master Plan. <br />The Volunteer Organizing Team established goals to guide the implementation process; <br />Communicate the message of the Master Plan in order to educate t <br /> <br /> <br />create a network of involved and engaged citizens, <br />Engage community in discussions of priorities and willingness to support the <br /> <br /> <br />implementation process, <br />Identify priorities and time frame for initiatives and projects, <br /> <br /> <br />Create a multi-faceted funding plan. <br /> <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
