Park and Recreation Commission Goals 2012-13 <br /> As prepared at the Saturday, September 15th,2012 Meeting <br /> I. Lead and advise on Implementation of Park and Recreation Master Plan <br /> A. Lead and advise on Park and Recreation Renewal Program— <br /> Time: 2012-2015? Short and Medium term work needed <br /> 1. Increase citizen participation by 20% from the Master Plan process <br /> Action Steps: <br /> • Commissioners use personal interactions in community to inform citizens of Renewal <br /> Program and opportunities to be involved in the process <br /> • Assist department with engagement activities <br /> 2. Engage community volunteers <br /> Action Steps: <br /> • Keep the public informed on volunteer opportunities using personal interactions, <br /> information at public spaces and events, and information on web site <br /> • Continue to encourage assistance from existing volunteers <br /> • Recognize significant volunteer contributions publicly <br /> 3. Collaborate with Public Works, Environment& Transportation Commission <br /> Action Steps: <br /> • Create joint PWET and P&R Commission working group <br /> • Consult with PWET Commission in trail extensions and upgrades and collaborate on <br /> joint projects <br /> • Identify potential joint projects between PW and PR Departments <br /> 4. Help find and encourage other collaborative efforts with outside groups and organizations <br /> Action Steps: <br /> • Continue to pursue grant opportunities to leverage renewal program investments <br /> • Keep open lines of communication with friends groups <br /> 5. Advise department on specific projects and steps as Renewal Program is implemented <br /> • Discuss projects and timing with community and bring ideas to monthly meetings and <br /> other discussions with department staff. <br /> 6. Increase understanding in the community of Renewal Program including current and future <br /> benefits for the city <br /> B. Increase Partnerships with other organizations <br /> Time: 2012-? Short, medium and long term work needed <br /> 1. Watershed districts <br /> Action Steps: <br /> • Collaborate on water quality improvement projects in the parks <br /> • Pursue joint funding for mutually beneficial projects <br />
