This organ+zation is composed of tf�e <br />International Conference of Building Officials and the Westem Fire Chieis <br />Association. The Institute correEates the provisions of the Uniform Fire <br />Code and the Uniform Building Cade_ <br />The Uniform Fire Code prescribes regulations consistent with nationally <br />recognized good practice for the safeguarding to a reasonalbe degree of <br />life and property from the hazards of fre and explosion arising from the <br />storage, handfing and use of hazardous substances, materials and <br />devices, and from condifions hazardous to life or property in the use or <br />occupancy of buildings or premises. <br />I� 1989, Minnesota adopted the Uniform Fire Code. <br />B.) National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This organization is <br />composed of fire service, business and industry, health care, educationa! <br />and other institu#ions and individuals in the fields of insurance, <br />government, architecture and engineering. This Association develops <br />and publishes standards irttended to minimize the possibility and effects <br />of frre and explosion. <br />Prior to 1989, the NFPA Code 30 was in effect ir� Minnesota. Code 30 <br />was used for the design, construction and installation of storage ta�ks for <br />flammable and combustible liquids. <br />STATE AGENCfES: <br />4. Minnesota Department of Public Safety (MnDPS) <br />This State agency has direct authority over {among others) the 4�ce of Pipeline <br />Safety, State Fire Marshal's Office, and Division of Emergency Management, <br />and is authorized to issue rules and regulations relating to the operation ot these <br />divisions. <br />A.j Minnesota Offce of Pipeline Safety (MnOPS) <br />The Minnesota Office of Pipeline Safety (MnOPS) reguEates intersiate and <br />intrastate pipe�ine operators thraughout Minnesota. k� existence since <br />September, 1987, the office consists of an authorized s#aff of 15, which <br />s-2 <br />
