Community RW-U4 <br />Te'lnn�lnlain Fnrnat <br />_ .....�1_ ---- _ �_ _.._ <br />Qualitative Rank: CD <br />Nonnative Shrub Rank: 10 <br />This lowland harc�wood forest lies along the fringes of the wetland in the southeast portion of <br />Reservoir Woads. It is characterized by young boxelder, with occasional cottonwood, elm, and <br />�reen ash. Butternut are also found here, but only rarely. The shrub layer is dominated by a mix <br />of tree saplin�s, and nonnative and/or thorny shruhs. These include European and glossy <br />buckthorn, green ash, prickly gooseberry, Arnerican elm, and comrnon elder. The b ound layer <br />is dominated by a mix of species that are commonly found in disturbed areas. "I'hese include the <br />nonnatives reed canary grass, motherwort, stinging nettle, and deadly nightshade, as well as the <br />natives white snakeroot, wood nettie, Virginia stickseed, and Canada goldenrod. <br />Overall, this community is relatively young and is in the process of recoverin� from disturbance. <br />It should recover to somewhat better quality in time on its own, although it would improve at a <br />faster rate with active management_ <br />� <br />, ,: , , <br />Community Activity;� Priority Estimatert CoSY. , Coizymer�ts` <br />RW-U4 Remove Low $1,000 per acre Cut and treat all stvmps with <br />Buckthorn and 25-SO�ie solution of Roundup or <br />other nonnative Garinn. <br />shrubs <br />Community RW-US <br />Dry Oak Forest <br />Qualitative Rank: CD <br />Nonnative Shrub Rank: 11 <br />This disturbcd oak forest is found on a dry, steep, north-facin� slope between an asphalt trail and <br />County maintenance facility. Althou�h white and pin oak occ.ur occasionaliy here, they are <br />widely scattered. Other trees on the slope that are typical for this type of forest are white birch <br />and ironwood.
