Terraces <br />are ordinarily level or nearly level and are <br />seldom flooded. <br />Till Unstratified and unsorted material <br />depasited directly by a glacier. Till consists <br />of clay, sand , gravel, or boulcfers mixed in <br />any proportion. <br />Till plain A broad and level or gently <br />undulating landform composed of material <br />that was deposited underneath and at the <br />margin of a glacier as the ice sheet melted; <br />also referred to as a ground moraine. <br />Total Phosphorus (TP) A measure o# all of <br />the diiferent fiorms o( phosphorus in water. <br />Includes phosphorus dissolved in the water, <br />suspended or incorparated in algae or other <br />organisms. <br />Total Suspended Solids {TSS) Particulaie <br />material which floats in or is carried along in <br />water {e.g., algae, soil particles). <br />Transitional habitat A habitat present <br />between two adjacent natura! cammunities <br />(for example, the edge of a forest akong a <br />wet meadow}. Transitional habitats often <br />have teatures that set them apart form the <br />habi#ats formed by either of the adjacent <br />communities. <br />Trophic State 7he level of growkh or <br />productivity of a lake as measured by <br />phosphorus content, a{gae abundance, ar <br />depth of light penetration. <br />Understory The vegetation occurring beiow <br />the canopy in a plant community. <br />Vine A plant with afong, weak stem that <br />graws along the ground or climbs on other <br />vegetation for support. <br />Watershed: The area of land draining into <br />a specific bocfy of water. <br />Water Transparency A measure of the <br />clarity of waier. The depth at which an <br />object can be seen in water. <br />Wetland Habitats where the soil is satura#ed <br />or covered with water for part of the year. <br />Woodfand A wooded habitat characterized <br />by an interrupted tree canopy; also used as <br />a general term to descr{be any tract of land <br />with trees growing on it. <br />Woodiand-brushlanc! An upland plant <br />community composed of a patchy canopy <br />(10 to 70% cover} of mature trees and a <br />dense understory of shrubs, tree shoots, <br />and sa�lings. Usuaily the trees occur in <br />scattered groves with dense thickets of <br />brush between them. <br />Glassary <br />Woody piant A perennial plant with a <br />secondarily thickened, lignified stem. <br />Zooplankton Microscapic animals. <br />
