the more disturbed areas, particularly the grasses smooth brome and Kentucky bluegrass. Also, <br />Cyprus spur�e, a nonnative forb is well established in one area near the rail ri�ht-of-way. Some <br />of the prairie specics present are big �,luesterr�, liitie bluesterri, prairie cordgrass, sky biue aster, <br />harebell, windflower, northern bedstraw, Culver's root, and three-seeded mercury. <br />The southwest portion of this community has a more typical structure for oak woodlanc�s with <br />large, open-grown oaks as the defining feature. A portion of this a.rea is maintained as active <br />park area, while a small area is not maintaincd. The unmaintained area has a moderately thick <br />layer of buckthorn, and ground layer species similar to the portion of this community on the <br />northeast side af the lake. <br />Because of the amount of past disturbance and the recent colonization of the area by weedier <br />trees and nonnatives, this connmunity received a low rank. Despite this, it has moderately good <br />potential for improvement, partly because the infrastructure present in the �ark enables active <br />managcment.
