City of Roseville Human Rights Commission
Religious Perspectives on Gay Marriage (Panel Discussion with Q& A)
Date: Monday, October 29, 2012
Time: 7:00-8:30 PM
Location: St. Michael's Lutheran Church (1660 West County Road B, Roseville)
Purpose of Event: While the Roseville Human Rights Commission and the Roseville City Council have each
taken a position opposing the Marriage Amendment, it is important for citizens to understand the reasons
motivating disagreement on this sensitive issue. In that religious concerns have been shared on both sides of
this issue, and in that the Roseville community has a plurality of religious views within it, this event will aim to
foster an educated understanding of the spectrum of religious beliefs with respect to gay marriage and the
Marriage Amendment. The purpose of this event is to allow for diverse perspectives to be articulated by
religious leaders in the area, so that citizens may understand the reasons and concerns that motivate different
religious views found in our community. While the intent is not to debate the issue nor change minds, this
program will intend to foster an accurate and respectful understanding of the diverse religious views found
among our citizens.
Program Agenda:
1. Introduction by Moderator (Kristin Klamm-Doneen)
2. Panel Presentation: Each member of the panel will have 5-8 minutes to share one's own religious
perspective with respect to gay marriage and the Marriage Amendment. (This personal view may or
may not be the official position of one's religious organization, but in such a case this will be specified.)
Members of the panel will take turns talking, and there will be no cross-talk at this time.
3. Finalization of Position: Members of the panel will be provided the opportunity to clarify their
positions, in case any are concerned to do so at this point. Such clarifications should be brief — one to
two minutes each.
4. Panel members respond to one another: Each member of the panel will be able to ask one question of
another member of the panel. Responses will be limited to two minutes.
5. Audience members will be invited to ask questions. Questions will be written, collected, and read by
moderator. Responses should be limited to two minutes.
6. Adjournment
