<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: 12-10-12 <br /> Item No.: 5.a <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br />Item Description: Recognize Goodmanson Construction Inc. for their generous sponsorship of the <br />New Year’s Eve Celebration at the Roseville Skating Center over the last seven <br />years. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />B ACKGROUND 1 <br />The City of Roseville Parks and R ecreation Department is extremely fortunate to have numerous sponsors 2 <br />of all different levels throughout the year to assist in the provision of programs, services and facilities for 3 <br />our community. 4 <br /> 5 <br />This will be the 20 th year that the Roseville Skating Cent er has hosted an annual New Year’s Eve 6 <br />Celebration on ice. Some years with an anchor sponsor , others with the City of Roseville being the sole 7 <br />sponsor. 8 <br /> 9 <br />2012 will be the 7 th consecutive year, Cami, Merl and Rick Goodmanson, local business owners of 10 <br />Goodmanson Construction Inc., have once again agreed to be the anchor sponsor of the annual 11 <br />Roseville Skating Center New Year’s Eve Celebr ation on Ice with a $4,000 cash contribution. Over 12 <br />these 7 years Goodmanson Construction has contributed $28,000 towards direct sponsorship of the 13 <br />celebration as well as contributing prize packs valu ed at $7,000, Staff hours before, during and after the 14 <br />event totaling nearly $15,000 and distribution of over 35,000 promotional fliers and materials. This 15 <br />comes to a total package of $50,000 over the last 7 years. 16 <br /> 17 <br />The contribution of Goodmanson Construction is not limited to monetary value, as they go above and 18 <br />beyond to ensure a successful event by providing extras such as the evening mascots which have 19 <br />included: “Mudonna” of the St. Paul Saints Baseba ll team, “Sharkie” form Underwater Adventures, 20 <br />“Elmo”, “Spiderman” and the RAHS “Raider”, to name a few. The bounce castle, face painting and 21 <br />magic shows also have added to the allure of this family friendly event that has become a tradition for 22 <br />many over the years. The event draws around 2,000 people per year and has generated revenue totals of 23 <br />about $10,000 per year 24 <br /> 25 <br />The willingness of this local small business to annually contribute so much valuable time, effort and 26 <br />money to this event is imperative to the success of the New Years Eve on Ice celebration. It truly 27 <br />demonstrates the strength of our community, and dedi cation to providing the best service our City can 28 <br />offer. 29 <br /> 30
