Disposal of Bulky Items <br />as matresses, cads: while it is not illegal to dispose of large items such <br />mattresses, furniture and carpeting in the garbage it may take addi <br />- <br />tionaltimeormoneytodoso. All licensed garbage haulers in Roseville 1W <br />charge extra to take bulky items. The fee vanes by type of item and size <br />If taken away by a garbage hauler these items typically end up in a landfill Even A items are <br />taken to a waste to energy processing facility they will most likely be separated out because they <br />are difficult to process. <br />Some items such as mattresses and carpeting can be recycled but residents may need information <br />and support to find the ways to do this <br />Most So seville residents chose to get nd ofthes e items using the least expensive means. Many <br />residents recycle them by giving furniture and similar items away or selling them. Fifty three <br />percent of homeowners and 50% of multi many complex residents surveyed in 2002 have <br />donated large items to chanty. The MOEA joined other states in negotiating a memorandum <br />of understanding with the carpet industry under which the industry will <br />develop programs to increase the amount of reuse and recycling of post <br />- <br />carpet and reduce the amount of waste carpet going to landfills. <br />The first collection programs in Minnesota are expected to launch in late <br />2002 or early 2003.
