Department Approval
Item Description
BACKGROUND

REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Date: October 22, 2012
Item No.: 7.h
City Manager Approval
Appoint Youth Representative to Human Rights Commission
Over the years, the City Council has appointed non-voting youth representatives to serve one-
year terms on the Human Rights Commission (HRC).
Based on commissioners' experiences working with youth, they find that youths are more likely
to be active participants on boards or commissions if more than one youth is involved. Therefore
the City Council has appointed three youth commissioners over the past several years. Most
recently, Marie Siliciano and Joan Dao were reappointed to another one-year term and Youth
Commissioner Kayo Kadir resigned from the commission.
The City publicized the vacancy and received five applications. One applicant did not live in
Roseville.
The Outreach Committee interviewed the candidates, and at their October meeting, the HRC
recommended that the Council appoint Julia Laden to be a youth commissioner for a term that
expires on July 31, 2013.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS
None
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Appoint to serve Julia Laden as youth representative on the Human Rights Commission until
July 31, 2013.
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION
Appoint to serve Julia Laden as youth representative on the Human Rights Commission until
_ July 31, 2013.
Prepared by: Carolyn Curti, Communications Specialist
Attacbments: A: Application
