REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Date: 2/11/13 Item No.: 7.f Department Approval City Manager Approval Item Description: Certify Unpaid Utility and Other Charges to the Property Tax Rolls Page 1 of 3 B ACKGROUND 1 As authorized by City Code, Sections 506, 801, 802, and 906, the City annually certifies to the County 2 Auditor any unpaid false alarm, water, sewer, and othe r charges that are in excess of 90 days past due, for 3 collection on the following year’s property taxes. A ffected property owners are provided a hearing to 4 dispute any charges against their property. 5 6 Beginning in 2010, the City Council began approving certifications for delinquent utilities on a quarterly 7 basis. This ensures that any unpaid utilities are brought to the attention of new pr operty owners in a more 8 timely fashion. It will also allow the City to record a lien against the property in the event that a property 9 goes into foreclosure and/or is being prepared for sale for other reasons. 10 11 Attached is the current list of delinquent charges.
