Elected to six year term.
Mayor's Toxic Chemical Task Force St. Paul, member (1990) Midway Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors
• Economic Development Committee, Member
• Communications Committee, Chair

Please state your reasons for wanting to serve on the Commission/Board:: I believe in public involvement and service.
Throughout my career and as time permitted I have been involved with the community I live in. The timing seems right
to become involved again if possible.

So, why Parks & Recreation?

I am public spaces enthusiast and a Roseville Parks user, frequently walking my dog through Central Park and the
arboretum. Plus I have for the past five years been engaged in the Taste of Rosefest event held in the Muriel Sahlin
Arboretum as chair of the marketing committee and then as general dogsbody on the day of the event. Not to mention,
I’m a Roseville Rotarian and avid supporter of Rotary Woods at the arboretum.

I am very interested in conservation having served on the Ramsey Soil and Water Conservation District Board and on the
Toxic Chemical Task Force for St. Paul.

Additionally, I and a number of my family members are actively engaged in managing a family owned 40 ‐acre woodlot
under an official Forest Stewardship Plan in Itasca Co. The management purpose is to produce high quality hardwood,
create and maintain unique wildlife habitat and protect critical natural resources, including Wabana Lake water quality
(our acreage is adjacent to the lake and it’s watershed). This is not a new venture, we have managed the property for
more than a century and worked with the Minnesota DNR under a stewardship plan since 1981.

Roseville’s open spaces and park system is simply stunning. I want to be involved with it’s development, preservation
and furtherance in whatever way I can.

What is your view of the role of this Commission/ Board?: I’ve read the brochure provided by the Parks & Recreation
and rummaged through the city code chapters on the commission. I didn’t see an official statement of purpose or
mission per se, so here’s what I think.

First and foremost, I think Parks & Recreation along with the commission does a terrific job. My only gripe is the
occasional goose dropping I may encounter on walks, but then my dog Charlie loves it—go figure.

Roseville has extensive open space, green space and play grounds that significantly contribute to the sense of
community we have here. In addition, our parks and open space create a high quality of life that probably attracts
businesses and residents to Roseville—I don’t know it for a fact, but was one of the many positive reasons when my wife
and I chose to move here.

As I imagine it, the job of Parks & Recreation should include managing our existing system of parks and recreation land,
facilities and programs safely and within reasonable budget parameters. It should also manage it in a way that
promotes Roseville’s environmental resources while providing ample programs and play space for residents and visitors.

More than that though, Parks & Recreation should actively and aggressively promote our green space, parks and
recreation as the assets they are. Not only to potential investors or homebuyers, but to our own residents ‐‐all age
