<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: March 11, 2013 <br /> Item No.: 13.b <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Discuss 2013 Legislative Agenda <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />B ACKGROUND 1 <br />Each year the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) and Metro Cities asks cities for input on 2 <br />legislative ideas and areas of concern to safeguard the best interests of Minnesota cities. They 3 <br />then identify legislative goals to address the concerns. 4 <br />Based on the input from local municipalities, the LMC and Metro Cities identified several 5 <br />legislative initiatives that they will be working on this legislative session. These include local 6 <br />option sales tax, housing improvement areas, data requests for residents’ contact information, 7 <br />impact fees and other areas of interest to Roseville. 8 <br />Over the past year, City Councilmember and staff have identified these issues which are 9 <br />contained in legislative goals of the LMC and Metro Cities. 10 <br />P OLICY O BJECTIVE 11 <br />Ensure that the needs and concerns of the residents of the City of Roseville are addressed at 12 <br />Minnesota Legislature. 13 <br />F INANCIAL I MPACTS 14 <br />None 15 <br /> 16 <br />S TAFF R ECOMMENDATION 17 <br />Motion to accept all or identify specific legislative goals of the League of Minnesota Cities, and 18 <br />authorize staff and Council to work with Roseville’s legislative delegation and the Minnesota 19 <br />Legislature to support those identified legislative goals. 20 <br />Motion to accept all or identify specific legislative goals of Metro Cities, and authorize staff and 21 <br />Council to work with Roseville’s legislative delegation and the Minnesota Legislature to support 22 <br />those identified legislative goals. 23 <br />R EQUESTED C OUNCIL A CTION 24 <br />Motion to accept all or identify specific legislativ e goals of the League of Minnesota Cities and 25 <br />authorize staff and Council to work with Roseville’s legislative delegation and the Minnesota 26 <br />Legislature to support those identified legislative goals. 27 <br />Motion to accept all or identify specific legislative goals of Metro Cities and authorize staff and 28 <br />Council to work with Roseville’s legislative delegation and the Minnesota Legislature to support 29 <br />those identified legislative goals. 30
