<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: 03/18/13 <br /> Item No.: 13.a <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br />Item Description: Review 2014-2017 Strategic Plan <br /> <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />B ACKGROUND 1 <br />At the February 25, 2013 City Council meeting, the Council adopted the 2014/2015 Budget Calendar. 2 <br />The calendar calls for a review of the Strategic Plan that was presented last August as a precursor to 3 <br />other upcoming budget processes. 4 <br /> 5 <br />A summary of the Strategic Plan initiatives is included in Attachment A along with linkage s to the City 6 <br />Council Directives/Community Aspi rations and the impact (if any) it will have on the 2014-2015 7 <br />Budget. In some instances there is no linkage to the Community Aspirations because they include 8 <br />Staff-initiated items that invol ve primarily operational matters. 9 <br /> 10 <br />It should be noted that the absence of a budget impact as depicted in Attachment A , does not necessarily 11 <br />mean that there won’t be financial implications. It is anticipated that some of these initiatives will be 12 <br />addressed by redirecting existing resources from lower-priority pr ograms or initiatives. 13 <br /> 14 <br />The development of the Strategic Plan entailed a 3-m onth process in which City Staff identified specific 15 <br />action steps that are designed to ach ieve the City Council’s Strategic Directives. The development of 16 <br />those Directives also involved an extensive process requiring 7 sepa rate Council discussions over a 4-17 <br />month process.
