Date: 04/22/13 <br />Item: 5.c <br />Proclamation <br />League of Women Voters Day <br />April 25, 2013 <br />Whereas <br />: The League of Women Voters is a national non-partisan organization that formed <br />after women suffrage in order to help women and other citizens become informed voters; and <br />Whereas <br />: The League of Women Voters started a new local group in 1953 in the Village of <br />Roseville with 23 women meeting at the Lexington School; and <br />Whereas <br />: Over time the Roseville league joined together with leagues from Falcon Heights <br />and Maplewood and other neighboring communities and currently has approximately 100 active <br />members; and <br />Whereas <br />: The League of Women Voters of Roseville, Maplewood and Falcon Heights <br />celebrates 60 years of dedicated service to the community; and <br />Whereas <br />: This service includes promoting political responsibility through informed and <br />active participation of people in their government and providing voter information, registering <br />voters and organizing candidates forums for local and state elections; and <br />Whereas <br />: Over the years the LWV was instrumental in researching and working with city <br />government on such issues as establishing a council-manager form of government, developing a <br />park system including natural areas, establishing a human rights commission and studying the <br />fire department structure among other areas of interest. <br />Now, Therefore Be It Resolved <br /> that the Roseville City Council do hereby declare April 25, <br />2013 to be League of Women Voters of Roseville, Maplewood and Falcon Heights Day in <br />Roseville, Minnesota. <br />In Witness Whereof <br />, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Roseville <br />to be affixed this fifteenth day of April 2013. <br /> __________________________________ <br /> Mayor Daniel J Roe <br /> <br />
