REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />05/13/13 <br /> Date: <br /> Item No.: 10.a <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Planning Commission Meeting with the City Council <br />B <br />ACKGROUND <br />1 <br />Each year, the Planning Commission meets with the City Council to review activities and <br />2 <br />accomplishments and to discuss the upcoming year’s work plan and issues that may be <br />3 <br />considered. <br />4 <br />Activities and accomplishments: <br />5 <br />Numerous zoning code text amendments <br />6 <br />Land use applications/public hearings <br />7 <br />Walmart land division items <br />8 <br />Work Plan (generated by City Planner) items for the upcoming year: <br />9 <br />Land Use Application Public Hearings and Recommendations <br />10 <br />Zoning Code Text Amendments (as needed) <br />11 <br />Subdivision Ordinance <br />12 <br />Shoreland, Wetland and Storm Water Management Ordinance <br />13 <br />Question or Concerns for the City Council: <br />14 <br />In addition to the standard land use application and hearing/action process, should the <br />15 <br />Planning Commission have a greater role and responsibilities in initiating items of <br />16 <br />concern and/or play a more active role in land use, planning and zoning process?” <br />17 <br />Could the Planning Commission’s public hearing process and recommendation to the <br />18 <br />City Council be refined or altered so that the hard efforts of the public hearing process <br />19 <br />and recommendation are not lost or replicated at the City Council level? <br />20 <br />Should the Planning Commission create a yearly work plan? <br />21 <br />Any other items/issues <br />22 <br />23 <br />Prepared by: Thomas Paschke, City Planner; Staff Liaison to the Planning Commission <br />Page 1 of 1 <br /> <br />
