REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: 05/13/13 <br /> Item No.: 11.a <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Hearing to Solicit Public Comment on the 2014 Budget & Tax Levy <br />B <br />ACKGROUND <br />1 <br />At the February 25, 2013 City Council meeting the Council adopted the 2014/2015 Budget Calendar <br />2 <br />which calls for a Budget Hearing to be held on May 13, 2013. The purpose of the Hearing is to provide <br />3 <br />citizens with an opportunity to provide input on City programs and the budget and to gauge their <br />4 <br />willingness to pay higher property taxes and fees in order to maintain programs at current service <br />5 <br />levels. <br />6 <br />7 <br />The City Council can then use this input to determine target spending levels for the 2014 budget as well <br />8 <br />as set preliminary tax levy and utility rates. <br />9 <br />PO <br />OLICYBJECTIVE <br />10 <br />Holding a Budget Hearing to solicit public input is consistent with the goals established in IR2025, as <br />11 <br />well as the City’s Performance Management Program. <br />12 <br />FI <br />INANCIAL MPACTS <br />13 <br />Not applicable. <br />14 <br />SR <br />TAFF ECOMMENDATION <br />15 <br />Not applicable. <br />16 <br />RCA <br />EQUESTED OUNCIL CTION <br />17 <br />For information purposes only.
