L� <br />RESPONSE TO COMMENTS RECEIVED <br />REGARDING THE EAW DOCUMENT <br />FOR THE NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE MASTER PLAN <br />(DRAFT June 29, 2007) <br />Resident Comments <br />A. Ed Dickinson and Nancy Jacobson (3188 Asbury Avenue, Arden Hilis, MN) <br />2 <br />Comment: The math does not match for before and after development, therefore <br />before and after totals are not equal. Please expiain why. <br />Response: The land cover numbers have been revised to reconcile the before <br />and after totals in the 2007 EAW. The land cover estimates are detailed in the <br />response to comment I.A.2. :�r <br />,,>,> <br />a,x <br />� �;� � <br />Comment: Comparing the 1986 EAW to the 2007 EAW illustrates°a significant <br />��-:��. <br />reduction of valuable wooded/forest cover type that used to predominate the <br />campus. Wooded forests have significantly decreased since the College started <br />building on the campus. In 1986 the wooded forest comprised 48% of total land <br />cover type before development. The 2007 EAW shows wooded/forests <br />comprising only 29% of.the la'nd,cover type. Explain the difference between the <br /><-:-� - <br />two EAWs' wooded/forest land acreaqes. <br />Response: The projecf site`for the <br />� <br />has been gathered. The parcel;�nf <br />GIS data. There is one parcel `of.4 <br />parcel is the large Rosevilfe parce <br />smaller parcel of 6.37 acres thaf`c, <br />the land surrounding it (see Attaci <br />94.64 acres. <br />AlNcorisists of three parcels for which data <br />n� �:,; 3 ,��a <br />mat�on was�gathered from Ramsey County <br />69 acres in Arden Hills, directly south of that <br />�f 45.58 acres. To the west of that is a <br />�sisfs of a portion of Little Lake Johanna and <br />ient 3 of the EAVI�. The total parcel area is <br />In addressing the land cover question, the Minnesofa Land Cover Classification <br />Systerii (NlLCCS) Data from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was <br />used to guide the breakdown of the land cover on campus. The development of <br />the MLCCS�;data began in 1998 and was not available for the previous EAW. <br />For the 2007�rE'AW, this information was avai/able for the Roseville parcels, but <br />not for the Arden Hills parcel. An aerial photo was used to divide the parcel into <br />the categories'used by the DNR for the Roseville parcel fo provide the estimated <br />acreage'of land cover types for the Arden Hills parcel. <br />The categories in the DNR MLCCS data for Roseville were as follows and were <br />divided into the EAW categories as shown below. <br />EAW Cafeqories DNR Cateqories <br />Types 1-8 Wetlands Limnetic open water <br />Wooded/Forest Oak Forest <br />Deciduous frees on upland soils <br />Brush/Grassland Oak woodland-brushland <br />TKDA Project No. 13529.002 Page 1 Draft Date: July 9, 2007 <br />
