HRA Meeting
Minutes – Tuesday, May 21, 2013
Page 8
1
the neighborhood may have worked on a larger parcel; but noted their preference for any
2
apartment building to be no higher than three (3) stories, provide underground parking, and to
3
make a good transition between the existing and proposed properties to make that adjustment
4
in housing style. Chair Maschka opined that the neighbors appeared to be amenable to
5
townhomes; however, he noted that the economic would make that difficult on that size of
6
parcel. Chair Maschka expressed appreciation for the input received from the neighborhood;
7
however, he noted the difficulty in convincing them that Section 8 housing was not being
8
considered, with even some City Councilmembers having trouble with that concept. Chair
9
Maschka opined that it had been an interesting process overall, and would only improve the
10
end product.
11
12
Ms. Kelsey concurred that there was still distrust in the community, with many residents
13
unaware of the existence of an HRA and their actual purpose, even though it had come into
14
being in 2002.
15
16
Member Lee opined that the public had come a long way in their understanding, stating that
17
she was favorably impressed with the process and seeing that understanding of development
18
and how/why they came together beyond making money. Member Lee supported such a
19
strategy and process for development/redevelopment of smaller sites as well. Member Lee
20
spoke in support of the social aspect and fantastic process of educating people to better
21
understand and become a part of the community’s goals.
22
23
11. Adjournment
24
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:06 p.m.
25
26
27
28
