I live with my family at 2205 Haddington Road, which is walking distance
from the Batteries Plus store on Snelling Ave. I want you to know that I am strongly
opposed to the opening of a liquor store in our area for the following reasons:
1) This type of establishment does not enhance the well being of our neighborhood.
2) I am raising sons whom I hope will become responsible, civic minded citizens. Having a
liquor store in the neighborhood does not support me or anyone else with children in this
area achieve that goal.
3) The Batteries Plus site is right next to four apartment buildings.
With the higher density of population, statistically there are bound to be people who are
in various stages recovery, having a liquor store with in walking distance does not assist
people who are trying to rebuild their lives and families.
4) In my opinion, the tax gain of such a retail business, does not offset the cost of
increased social services needed to help families who are affected by alcoholism.
5) This location is quite near an elementary school and a park.
6) In my years of public school teaching and making home visits, I noticed that in the
city, liquor stores were not an asset to the neighborhoods they were in. We want Roseville
to continue to be a city with strong and peaceful neighborhoods. Having a liquor store in
the neighborhood does not lend itself towards that goal.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I can be reached at (651)633-1597.
Sincerely,
Ruth Batchelder
1
