The Setback Permit process was created to lighten the load of the Planning
Commission/Variance board by allowing certain minor deviations from Code
requirements to be administratively approved. Planning Division Staff feels like this
process has worked well, and has identified a couple of changes to clean up some
conflicting language; the basic policies for the Setback Permit would not be changed.
The bigger change that will be proposed is the extension of the same kind administrative
approval to minor excesses of impervious coverage. There are occasional applications for
really significant excess impervious coverage, and these would continue to be treated as
variance conditions. But planning division staff has been working on drafting a zoning
ordinance amendment to treat the more minor proposals much like a Setback Permit; that
is, administrative approval could be granted subject to review against a series of criteria
and the mitigation of storm water runoff to the level that is allowed by the Code.
If you have general questions or comments about things we should consider as we
proceed, we can talk briefly about them now. Otherwise, we'll continue to work on the
amendment, discuss the proposed changes with the DRC, and bring back for a public
hearing with the variance board or planning commission for your recommendation.

. ; .,?
M , n
 a. 1
l-lc. e,: I
'Gf(V

. ...„ Q,._

  ' Ic . .
_, , ov. . ,.
, ;
 (''- w °e,-
