Topic: asphalt plant; re-zoning (Monday's CC meeting)
Date: 03:2 UTC
There are two items on the City Council Agenda for Monday,
July 26, 2010 that warrant particular attention. (See the
city website for the exact time.)
At this meeting, the Council will discuss (1) rezoning of
the industrial area along the Gross National Golf Course
(site of the proposed asphalt plant) into high density
housing and ball fields, and (2) residential zoning for
large lots.
(1) This proposed rezoning of this property from industrial
to high density housing would benefit by significantly in-
creasing our tax base, and allow the City of Roseville to
exceed in one step the Metropolitan Council's request for
medium and high density housing, to be realized by 2020.
The ball fields recommended by the recent Parks and Recrea-
tion Master Planning report would a11ow for adequate park-
ing, and would fit well into the proposed housing mix.
There are presently a few large lots in Roseville which
might conceivably be subdivided. For the most part, these
lots are located in areas that are surrounded by freeways
lor intensively commercialized developments. Their size and
,their cover of mature trees protect the residential areas
'from excessive noise and pollution. Surveys for Roseville
2025 and the Comprehensive Plan both disclosed residents
who were pleased with their neighborhoods, the diversity of
lot sizes and variety of housing stock.
Aside from one property (an abandoned school) that could be
rezoned from institutional to residential, and the rezoning
of those properties that have already been rebuilt, so that
they conform with their new purpose, it would seem best to
leave our residential zoning as it presently stands, as it
already well conforms to the present Comprehensive Plan.
Please come to Monday's meeting, and add your voice to the
discussion.
