CHANGE
This neighborhood news-
letter is still evolving. We
are attempting to cover
development news of sig-
nificance to each of our
nei9hborhoods in SW
Roseville, in a fair manner
within our perspective of
nei9hborhood empower-
ment. Our goal, as stated
on the first page, remains
' Ne ig hborhoods: Informed,
Educated, Heard!'
We share a desire to let
residents speak for them-
selves, and welcome all
SW Roseville residents to
join us in this effort. On
controversialissues we
seek common ground, not
the lowest common de-
nominator.
We welcome contributions
of time and money, since
neighborhood distribution
is critical [o achieving our
goal, and our format and
color produdion costs are
significant.
Call or e-mail us at ggre-
fenberg@comcast.net. Tell
us what you want covered,
or better yet, submit an
article.
Complete Statement of Tam McGehee, an organizer of the
Friends of Twin Lakes Petition Drive:
The impacted citizens, businesses or communities were not, in my opinion,
properly notified and there was no attempt at reasonable environmental review.
Our city government tried to allow a plant proposing to supply 300,000 tons of
asphalt per year and generating toxic emissions of particulates, VOCs, carbon
monoxide, and lead to be located near our elementary school, our retail cen-
ters, our day care centers, our restaurants, and our community center, with no
environmental review.
An asphalt plant is not a simple manufacturing effort; its poisons are distributed
by the prevailing winds across our area as well as to our nearby communities of
St. Anthony, Falcon Heights, and Lauderdale. Given the huge environmental
impact to our neighborhoods from the manufacturing, hauling, and crushing of
asphalt, our city governmenYs effort to slip this approval'under the radar' with-
out fully notifying the entire area or making any attempt at environmental re-
view to protect the health and safety of the residents and the environment is
unconscionable.
