It's very helpful. The
map you provided accurately reflects my thoughts on what the areas of question are.
I will likely not be at the meeting, as I need to be in St. Paul at a meeting by 4:00. If I
do make it, I probably won't be able to stay long.
If I do miss the meeting, these are my thoughts:
1) I am ok with the setback deviation that has been proposed on the north side of his
property.
2) I am ok with the f ront of the garage being setback the same distance from the street as
the SW part of his house (I know this is outside your scope, but I thought I would mention
it anyway). This would keep his house roughly in line with all the other houses on the
block, and would preserve much of the view from my house to the SW.
3) I am not ok with the front of his garage being closer to the street than the SW part of
his house. Having the structure closer to the street would significantly limit the views
from my picture window, and it would bring the front of his house out-of-line with the other
houses on the block.
I spoke with Rick earlier this evening to let him know what I was planning to tell the city.
I wanted to explain my thoughts so he understood my reasoning. Interestingly enough, he said
he always intended to have the front setback for the garage match the SW part of the house.
I said that the plan shows it quite a bit closer to the street than that. We looked at the
diagram, and he said he didn't know why it had been depicted that way, because that wasn't
his intent. We even walked around his driveway and pointed out where we thought the corner
of the garage should be - and we agreed.
If this is truly what he wants (which I think it is) I don't have any issues with the
project. If the city continues to use the diagram I was sent for the request - that shows
