Do I need a permit for
that?
I appreciate your thoughts regarding the new zoning change and possibly
waiting until September to avoid the current application fee. However,
we would like to get the fence installed prior to sod. I did think that
the application fee was high and if I need to pay additional fees for a
permit, I will probably contest that.
I'm assuming you can't approve fencing north of the property line since
that is County R.O.W., is that correct? Yes, we do want to match the
northern end of the neighbor's fence to block the unsightly garage/shed
and junk. Is this something I need to coordinate with the County? Or is
this something you'l1 be looking into as part of my application and
provide me with guidance?
Thanks,
•Matthew 0. 7ohnson, P.E.
Aviation Project Engineer
Bolton & Menk, Inc.
P: (952) 890.0509 ext. 2852
M: (612) 919.3425
-----Original Message-----
From: Bryan Lloyd [mailto:bryan.11oyd@ci.roseville.mn.us]
Sent: Friday, April 09, 2010 11:32 AM
To: Matthew Johnson
Subject: RE: Variance application
Not at all, Matt; in fact, you could have your fence installer pull the
permit for all of the 6-foot fencing south of 40 feet from the front
property line.
Something else to consider: this is one of those variance applications
that make us cringe a bit because you're paying a few hundred bucks for
a slam dunk. There's no reason that your application wouldn't be
approved, but we don't currently have any way around it - but we are
working on an update to the zoning code that would make your proposal a
permitted kind of fence (meaning that you wouldn't need the variance).
If you're willing to wait for the taller fence in your front yard until,
say, September (when we have the zoning updates approved) I'll send back
our application fee and we'll just "wait out" the need for the
variance. Of course, you might not want to wait that long for the rest
of the fence, and there's a miniscule chance that the zoning change
wouldn't be approved, so it's your call.
