� <br />1J� <br />� <br />Community Development Department <br />emo <br />To: Pat Trudgeon, Community Development Director <br />From: Don Munson, Codes Coordinator <br />Date: 05-24-2010 <br />Re: 1450 Cty Rd C— Fence Modifications <br />� <br />The Code Enforcement Division has been asked to identify issues of concern regarding the <br />potential increasing (from 8' to 10') of the rear properiy line screen fencing at 1450 Cty Rd C. <br />The existing fence is an 8' high cedar board fence with 4x4 posts (with boards butted tight to <br />each other). It is not lrnown how deep the fence posts were imbedded into the ground, <br />however, industry standard is to imbed 1/3 of the exposed height. This would indicate an <br />imbedded depth of 32". <br />If the existing fence were to be raised to a height of 10' the following would be issues of <br />concern: <br />• With the existing posts presently 8' high: <br />o It would be difficult to increase the height of the posts and maintain the <br />stability of this increased fencing (this increased fencing must be able to <br />withstand a 90 mph wind). <br />o If the fence were increased to a height of 10' there should be 40" imbedded in <br />the ground, however, with 32" likely, it would fall 8" short of indust�y <br />standards. Any additional 2' of fencing could be unstable in itself, or, cause <br />instability of the entire existing fence. <br />• Page 1 <br />
