.y
,-.
Variance application pertaining to parcel identification number 142923320045,
Schreiber Addition Plat 2 subject to drainage easement lot 15, block 1
I am proposing to build a covered porch at the front of my home at 1830 Oxford Street in
Roseville. The home is set near the required setback line and the proposed porch would cross that line.
Presently there is a crumbling concrete stoop leading to the front door, beneath which lies a well room.
Water intrudes through the deteriorating stoop creating numerous problems in the basement. In order
to remediate this problem I would like to remove the stoop, frame a low roof above the well room and
build a covered porch at the front of the house that will cover the well room roof system in lieu of
simply rebuilding the badly designed stoop. This solution will prevent further intrusion by water and
increase the value of the home, thereby increasing the tax revenue generated by the property.
In addition, the new porch will benefit the neighborhood. The homes in the area were built
primarily in the 1950s, an era in which home design suffered because of the centrality of the automobile
to daily life. These homes present bare facades to the street, lacking places to gather together and
discouraging interaction between neighbors. This leads to weak or non-existent relationships and lack
of a sense of community. With the addition of a front porch, my home will present a welcoming fasade
that encourages social interaction and edifies the neighborhood.
Thank you for your consideration.
Peter Anderson
1830 Oxfard St N
Roseville, MN 55113
