REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Date: 08/12/13 Item No.: ___________________________________________________________________________________ Department Approval City Manager Approval ____________________________________________________________________________________ Item Description: Approve Parks and Recreation Renewal Program Preliminary Plans ____________________________________________________________________________________ Page 1of 2 BACKGROUND 1 At your February 11, 2013 meeting, the implementation appr oach, schedule, public engagement strategy 2 and process for delivering the Parks and Recreati on Renewal Program(Renewa l Program)was presented 3 and discussed. Using that process to guide us, th e Renewal Program is c ontinuing to progress. 4 5 With guidance from the System Master Plan, includi ng the concepts and previous working documents, 6 final issues and ideas were gathered since Februa ry through a series of more detailed neighborhood and 7 community meetings and workshops that were geared to specific parks/locations. Incorporating this array 8 of input, preliminary pl ans were developed. 9 10 At your April 15, 2013 meeting staff reviewed with you a typical preliminary planning process using 11 Lexington Park as an example including input me thods, types of input gathered from the neighborhoods 12 and community and the meeting summary recording format.13 14 On May 13, 2013 you authorized the first set of pre liminary plans to move to the next phase of the 15 process that includes final design, plans and speci fications to prepare pr ojects for construction. 16 17 On June 17, 2013 you authorized the second set of pre liminary plans to move to the next phase of the 18 process that includes final design, plans and speci fications to prepare pr ojects for construction. 19 20 The third set of preliminary plans have been through the review pr ocess by the neighborhood, community 21 and the Parks and Recreation Commis sion and are ready for your consideration. Summary notes from the 22 neighborhood/community meetings and th e preliminary plan documents included in your packet for your 23 review are as follows:24 x Acorn Park 25 x Central Park Foundation & FOR Parks Shelter 26 x Central Park Lexington 27 x Langton Lake Park 28 x Mapleview Park 29 x Pocahontas Park 30 31 The only Preliminary Plans in th e Renewal Program yet to be determinedare Rosebrook Park, 32 Tamarack Parkand Southwest Roseville. These will require more work with the community and 33 neighborhoods and will be brought back to you for fu rther discussion as thed irection becomes clearer.34 35 TheRenewal Program is a defined project and defi ned budget program.
