REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: 8/12/2013 <br />Item No.: 7.c <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Approve General Purchases or Sale of Surplus Items Exceeding $5,000 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />B ACKGROUND 1 <br />City Code section 103.05 establishes the requirement that all general purchases and/or contracts in 2 <br />excess of $5,000 be approved by the Council. In addition, State Statutes require that the Council 3 <br />authorize the sale of surplus vehicles and equipment. 4 <br />5 <br />General Purchases or Contracts 6 <br />City Staff have submitted the following items for Council review and approval: 7 <br />8 <br />Comments/Description: 9 <br />a)The 2-Factor authentication licenses will allow the Police Department to access the FBI’s criminal justice 10 <br />information systems. The licenses are a requirement by the FBI. 11 <br />b)The purchase of water meters and meter radio devices are part of the move to a citywide Automated Meter Reading 12 <br />system. 13 <br />c)HVAC contract maintenance for City Hall and the Public Works building. 14 <br />d)Professional services to assist in the design and implementation for internet connectivity redundancy. 15 <br />e)Insecticide treatment for ash trees as part of the City’s Emerald Ash Borer program. 16 <br />17 <br />Sale of Surplus Vehicles or Equipment 18 <br />City Staff have identified surplus vehicles and equipment that have been replaced and/or are no longer 19 <br />needed to deliver City programs and services. These surplus items will either be traded in on replacement 20 <br />items or will be sold in a public auction or bid process.
