Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />July 17, 2013 <br />Page 5 of 6 <br />assist the HRC in reaching its goals and objectives throughout the coming year. He requested <br />comment or suggestions from the Commission members on the calendar. <br />Commissioner Groff thanked staff and Chair Grefenberg for creating the calendar. He felt this <br />would be an important planning tool. <br />Vice Chair Brisbois appreciated the calendar as well, stating this would be a great working <br />document to have in place that can be reviewed on a monthly basis by the HRC. <br />There was Commission consensus to have the calendar provided in the packet on a monthly <br />basis. <br />New Business <br />Preparation for August 12 Joint Meeting with City Council: Chair Grefenberg discussed the <br />upcoming joint meeting with the City Council that would be held on August 12. He suggested <br />the Commission spend some time this evening discussing potential topics for the joint meeting, <br />while also listing the accomplishments over the past year. He encouraged youth commissioners <br />to participate in the meeting. <br />Youth Commissioner Siliciano indicated she would try to attend. She reported the youth <br />commissioners held several gatherings during the past school year. <br />Vice Chair Brisbois commented the two Maplewood dialogues were completed in the past year, <br />along with the forum at Shoreview. A same sex marriage and intergenerational dialogues were <br />also completed. She recommended the Rose Parade participation be mentioned. <br />Chair Grefenberg stated the Safe and Connected Community dialogues would be discussed with <br />the Council. He noted the HRC webpage and brochure were updated in the past year. <br />Commissioner Becker suggested the HRC's involvement in the Minnesota Human Rights <br />Commission be discussed. <br />Ms. Curti stated several members from the HRC attended training at Macalester College. <br />Chair Grefenberg stated the upcoming culture fest could also be mentioned. He commented the <br />creation of a Civic Engagement Commission could be discussed with the Council. He noted he <br />would revise his notes based on the comments provided this evening and would forward it to the <br />Commission for final review prior to the August 12 meeting. <br />Staff Report <br />Carolyn Curti noted the Commission had about $700 left in the 2013 budget. <br />Vice Chair Brisbois requested a copy of the 2013 budget be sent to each member of the HRC. <br />
