REPORT FROM
ICENGAGEMENT TASK
FORCE CO-GHAIR
PREPARED ON
JANUARY 9, LO '1 L
E1 l ' ,
L _ } I 1
Regarding Council
Actions on
Commissions including
Civic Engagement
Date: January 15, 2014
Item: Program Planning
CmmittPP RPnort
HUMAN RIGHTS
GOMMISSION
MEETING
OF
JANUARY '1 S, LO '1 L
At its recent meeting the Roseville City Council reviewed Commission responses to its survey
Reviewing Roseville's Commissions-2013. The Council also took action on the issue of whether
to establish a separate commission on Civic Engagement, an issue which for over a year now has
been pending.
The survey results from Human Rights Commissioners are attached. I would encourage you to
review them. From my perspective your answers were thoughtful and constructive.
Somewhat surprisingly the Council took action on creating two new Commissions: a Community
Engagement Commission and a Finance Commission. (See bench handouts attached.) The
Council approved the creation of a Civic Engagement Task Force on a 4-1 vote (Council Member
McGehee in opposition).
The Council focused on the recommendations of Lis LaLiberte. Please review the
recommendations contained in her handout.
I attended this meeting and gave comment as Task Force co-chair on the recommendations made
by our Task Force over a year ago. The Task Force had recommended the creation of both of
these new commissions. I also alerted our Chair Wayne Groff to the possibily of the Council
taking action the day of the meeting itself, when I became aware of this possibility myself.
I would encourage you to view this January 6th Council meeting on the city's web site. This item
occurred during the last part of Maonday night's council meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Gary Grefenberg, Co-Chair
Civic Engagement Task Force
Attachments: Results of Council Survey Reviewing Roseville Commissions-2013
Council Member LaLibert Recommendations (Bench Handout)
Council Member McGehee Recommendaitons (Bench Handout)
Cc: Civic Engagement Task Force Members
